Being in the top 1% of anything takes an insane amount of work, and being a 1%er in baseball is no exception. You have to be talented, but you also have to be mentally strong and willing to make huge sacrifices. It's not just about physical training, but about mastering the mental side of the game too. You need to be able to handle the pressure, bounce back from failure, and stay focused on your goals unlike the other 99%. You have to embrace failure and defeat. You have to get up and not make excuses and get back to work.
So, what kind of work are we talking about? Well, for starters, you're looking at a serious time commitment. Think about what it takes to play at the next level and how much more you have to do than now. Whether you are going from middle school to high school or from college to the pros, the workload grows as you grow. It's a never-ending grind.
A 1%er is incredibly disciplined. It's easy to get distracted, especially the young 1%ers. The athletes who make it to the top are the ones who can say no to hanging out with friends on occasion, or video games, and yes to another round of batting practice. A 1%er puts in the work, even when you don't feel like it.
A 1%er has Family and friends who believe in them and push you to be your best. A 1%er has a good coach who can help you develop your skills and keep you motivated. And teammates who challenge you to be better. Baseball's a team sport, and even the best players need people around them to help them reach their full potential.
